Together Alone

My work explores the human condition and our very human longing to belong. I tease out the laden psychological, emotional, and physical connections between the body and energy; the rituals of the everyday that anchor us in the here and now, the symbiotic relationships of within and without, friends and lovers whom we choose and who choose us, and the seeds of dreams and the growth of reality - from night to day, from intention to action and from dark to light.

Paths to Belonging uses materials that carry a history through their physical form, patinated and worn. They reflect a journey, a path we are on, a moment in time.

In the figurative works,Together Apart, the forms invite the viewer to decipher what's at play. Are they parts of the self? Are they memories or echoes from the past? Are they matter or spirit? shadow or light?

A show at Canberra Contemporary Art Space, Manuka with artist Toni Hassan.
